Entertainment Section now Open

Posted in Uncategorized on October 31st, 2004 by Notaninja

I think I have all the formatting and links set correctly for the new Entertainment section. This is where any game, movie, or other entertainment related items will be placed. I copied Goof’s thoughts on GTA San Andreas over there and I’m working on a piece about MMOs that should be up in the next couple of days.

We’ll see how it goes. If nothing else it’s something new for me to play with.

November 9, 2004 – A wonderful day?

Posted in Uncategorized on October 29th, 2004 by Notaninja

I must say, 11/9/04 is looking to be a pretty damn good day. Halo 2 will be released and Firefox v1.0 is also scheduled to be released! (thanks for the info Ben.)

And with any luck we will know who the next President of the United States is by then. Okay, maybe I’m getting a little carried away.

GTA: San Andreas – A Goof Perspective

Interesting new twist on an old classic. Your goal in the game, from what I can see at this point, is to raise your street gang to new heights and avenge your momma’s murder. You play as Carl Johnson or CJ, a black gangster just rolled back into town from a stint in Liberty City, which will no doubtedly send the NAACP into a whirlwind of how it portrays the race in a negative fashion. But it’s more like how everyone thinks of Compton. Even some of the areas play a twist on the more disreputable areas of Cali, with names like Idlewood (see Inglewood.).

The music is fantastic, as it fits the gameplay so much more. On most radio stations, there is Snoop and Dre playing. Though there is a country station that was playing “All my Exes live in Texas” when I tuned in on it.

Every mission you complete now will either earn or lose you respect and street creditability. Money, as it is not earned with every successful mission, becomes more of an issue. It is no longer spent on guns and ammo alone. You have to make sure your playa is fed, groomed, clothed, and armed of course. It seems in order to gain respect you have to keep the playa fit, and looking good. Keeping him healthy is another issue, as he can indeed become to thin and too fat, all of which affect gameplay.

Other neat things added into the game that I’ve seen so far, are being able to ride bicycles and perform various stunts on them, and also being able to grab a can of spray paint and mark your territory (or take down a few opposing gang members). The driving is as familiar as the earlier versions, but the layout of the streets is definitely more complicated.

So that’s all I have for now. So far it’s everything I expect it to be. GTA fans will not be disappointed, unless they’re stuck on a game not having any new fun stuff.

Thanks for the info Goof! Looking forward to checking it out.

Presidential Supporters Lie to Themselves

So not only do the candidates lie, their supporters lie to themselves. Well, at least the ones for Bush.

Just be thankful the election season is coming to a close.

Grand Theft Video Games

Posted in Uncategorized on October 21st, 2004 by Notaninja

Two of the most desireable video games of the year have now been made available for pirating before they have been made available at retail. That’s right, both Halo 2 and GTA: San Andreas can now be downloaded for your guilty gaming pleasure.

Why is this in the news? From what I have seen every game ever released has been available for pirating. Many times days or even weeks before they are available in stores. These particular games will still sell millions of copies. Hell, Halo 2 has 1.5 million pre-orders and it won’t be out for another 2.5 weeks. I would bet GTA has pre-sold about that much as well.

I’m not saying that pirating is right or wrong, that’s an excercise I’ll leave up to the reader. I just want to know what makes the pirated release of these games newsworthy when every other game this year has been made available as well. Tell me! Okay, maybe it’s just in the gamer news and tech sites, but what do you think I read when I don’t want to do work. (I just did a google news search and it has made the mainstream press as well.)

And while I’m at it, why is the flu shot shortage still in the news? We know already, okay? Move on! (that one was for Viggy)

Presenteeism

No, I didn’t mis-spell presentation as Google would have me believe. It’s a real thing. Basically people who are sick are going to work and causing massive productivity losses for themselves and by getting their co-workers sick. There’s an article floating around the various online news sources now.

I don’t think Goof or I have contributed to this much, how about the rest of you? So stay home and get healthy. And don’t pass it on to me!

Happy 10th Birthday!

To Netscape that is. Has it really been a decade already? I can remember using Netscape back then (I’m sure it was version 1.something) and eagerly awaiting the latest version. Yep, I’m a geek.

More on Presidential Candidates

Both sides lie. But hopefully you already knew that.

Update:

Looks like the election is over. A Green Bay TV website has reported that Bush has won the election. Don’t believe me? Check it out!
